'90 RS Hi/Lo Beam not working
Hi all.
Got a problem with my turn signal/hi/lo beam selctor. The plastic cover forward the tree has been broken for years. I used to be able to put pressure on the cover and the hi beam selector would work (if pressure wasn't applied, the cover would just fall off), but now, even after ordering a new cover, the selector won't switch from hi to low beam or vise versa. I'm about to take her into the dealership and let them take all my money, but thought I'd check here first to see if anyone else here has had the same issue. Thanks.
ETA: Turn signal function is fine. Just Hi/Lo beam that doesn't work.

I had the same problem with my 91. Under the steering column you'll see the rod that pushes the spring that causes the lights to swith. Follow that rod to the the actual spring (I believe it was white on mine). What I did, after hours of trying to get it to work, was that I dropped in a small ball of puddy (one of those that you mix by had and it turns hard) in between the rod and the spring. This helped put just enough pressure on the spring to cause it to switch. Try this out and see if it will work.

Ya this is probably the best way to do it. I searched and searched and could never get a straight answer when I was trying to fix the problem. Just check autozone.com and they have it for about $10.00. All that time that I wasted trying to Mcgyver the damn thing for nothing

Your tilt column isnt loose is it? Mine was loose much like the other 25 billion or so GM tilt columns. Caused the same thing. Hope your lucky enough to just need the switch.

Does anyone have a picture of their dimmer switch and wiring going to it? My '91 is a mess under the dash from the previous owners. Thanks in advance

More than likely, the switch just needs adjusted and not replaced. The little screws that hold it in can loosen and allow the switch to move, and thus the rod is not long enough to activate it.

Re: '90 RS Hi/Lo Beam not working
Giving update, finally found the dimmer switch and got it out, it looked like it had been burnt. Put the new one in, and 3 out of 4 lights came on fine. The passenger high beam only had one prong on the back for the connector that wasn't there. Replaced all 4 bulbs and with a little ingenuity on the one with a missing connector, they all work. Got my license plate lights and dome light working also. She's ready to be street driven again! Woohoo!!!! Now... there's this little oil leak.... hmm... that'll be coming up a little down the road. First plates, tags, and fixing broken wheel studs and getting the other lugnuts on. Gosh she was a junker.
