Ok the white frail bracket that the dome light atatches to broke into 5 pieces, I didn't really care I figured the new ABS headliner would cover it up, but didnt realize the light holds it up in the middles. so now i don't know what to do... possibly using a different dome light form a different car? anyone swap out there dome light??

Any suggestions?

Re: Dome light bracket broken....ugghh!! Need help!

I cant attest to any brackets from other cars fitting since I have never tried swapping one, but it would be the safest bet to just get another firebird one from the junkyard or online.

If the part your talking about is the little bracket that holds the bulb and bulb contact pins, you could always do without it temporarily and not use the dome light. The metal pins and press nuts that hold the dome light housing on, and thus the headliner up, are not attached to this bracket, they just pass through holes in it and screw to the frame. So you can remove the bracket and bulb contacts and then just mount the dome light housing and cover to hold your headliner. Then when you find another bracket, pull the housing and put the new one in.

NOTE: This info is for a 91-92 model as 95% of my knowledge is on those year models. If your car is an older model, and my description sounds totally different than your dome light setup, then it might have a different layout and my text here will be of little use. Hopefully it will be enough to help.

I've got a dome light and components from a 91 Camaro. Not in the greatest of shape, but if you're interested in parts, I can probably get them for you. PM me, I can do it for cheap. But, make sure the parts will be compatable. I dont know if they would be.

Those lights are plug any play, I am sure a ton of GM cars used the same setup. All that holds them in are the small clips you see, you can replace that easily.

I pried those out, but I tried putting them back on and now they don't stay on. How do those clips even hold on? I am a little confused on how a washer looking clip can hold on to a smooth stud.

Get new ones at any auto supply place. They are meant for a one time use unless you can remove them without breaking them and flatten them out.

Ahhh thank you. Are there the same clips that hold the bracket to the body like the ones holding the housing on?

I don't know if the bracket is the same, but 82-93 s-10 blazer/jimmy got the same dome light as our cars. Not sure about the s-10 pickups, but they might also be worth a look. I just happened to notice it when I was pulling my ECM from a mid-80s s-10 blazer (some of the four banger EFI models got the same 1227165 ECM as our cars too).

It's a washer with like teeth inside, it just grabs the stud. It's hard to get them out without atleast breaking a tooth or two.
