T-top rubber grommet thingy

So I determined the cause of my one and only t-top leak. Where the locking pin comes out of the t-top there is supposed to be a little rubber grommet. I'm missing one and the other three have deteriorated, allowing the t-top to wiggle up and down causing a small leak, which destroyed my floor pan. So does anyone know of anyone that makes these things, or will I have to fab something up.
Thanks
Alex

Re: T-top rubber grommet thingy

Hi:

The only place that might have is :

http://www.eastcoastt-top.com/index.html

I plan on bring my TA there soon to have them redone. This is the closest place I could find who works on T-Tops. No one that I found in my area will touch T-Tops.

He also advertises Sales and service, so he may have the parts you need.

Thanks
Rob

Re: T-top rubber grommet thingy

Just curious, but what kind of car do you have, and are the T-Tops the Cars and Concepts type? My car has stock T-Tops on it and does not use grommets like that. The pins that hold the top on are below the weatherstrip and their is no way water could even get to them to leak unless the weatherstrip around the T-Tops was leaky. My car is a 91 model, and the replacement top I got for the passenger side was off a 92, and neither have grommets, or any need for them.

Edit: I meant Cars and Concepts type, dont know why California Customs poped in their.

Re: T-top rubber grommet thingy

Here's some pics, they are below the weatherstripping. Water isn't coming through the pins. The pins don't keep the t-tops sealed to the car. The driver side isn't too noticeable but you can move the passenger side t-top up and down when it's locked in. Has about 1/4" of movement. It's the actual pin that's loose, not the hole it locks into. The first pic is of the front pin, the second pics is of the rear.
Thanks for the help guys

Edit: I honestly don't know what type t-tops they are

Re: T-top rubber grommet thingy

I see what you are talking about now. Thats a different type than I have, mine are the ones with the large plastic pins and it fill the entire hole, not needing that grommet. I saw something similar to that a while back, but it was for the 4th gen cars. It was called a t-top bushing, you might do a search for that and see what you find.

Re: T-top rubber grommet thingy

Only one leak? Lucky you!

there are 2 different t-tops for third gen's

If there is a vynil strip that borders the paint and the t-top, then it is not factory! (do not count the plastic edge on the t-top for this)

If the glass of the t-top has a little space then paint, then that is factory t-tops.

You would have to find out the manufacturer of the aftermarket tops, if you have them.

The photos you attached do not look like factory tops!

Send a photo of the roof of the car and I can tell you for sure. I run across both types in the wrecking yards

Re: T-top rubber grommet thingy

Thanks for all the help guys. I do believe I have aftermarket t-tops. Which doesn't surprise me as the car is a salvage title so they probably shattered when it got hit. The tops have a vinyl strip around the edges which is wearing away. Not sure about the paint though, don't really see any. The last pic is of the inside of the top. I think I might just get new t-tops. I've heard that they make plastic tops. Is this true and is there any other benefit other than weight.
Thanks again
Alex

Re: T-top rubber grommet thingy

Looks like you could just put a standard grommet on there.Should at leaset get rid of the looseness.

Re: T-top rubber grommet thingy

plastic or acrylic t-top replacements have a habit or crazing over time.

More so in hot always sunny areas!

The frames on your car look factory!!
