I am looking for t top headliner. Are they available? How about the reproduction types? anybody have any experience with these?

 

yes there available.. you can pick one up pretty much any place that deals with camaro parts and resto.. the new ones are abs plastic and the fitment is not that great.. but its all thats out there... pick up some heavy duty velcro to help you along a little the section behind the t-tops likes to sag a little.. and if you have a roof console be prepared to do some cutting..

 

Thanks for the info. You say they don't fit well? And yes, I have a console. It's an 86 iroc. Someone told me they can apolster the cardboard that's behind the crumbling foam. The cloth is so decayed, it tears easy. I thought of making one of my own. If the "cardboard" can be covered, then I was thinking of using my old one as a templet.

 

my buddy has the twin to my car and he had a professionall interior guy do his the same guy that did my seats.. and the headliner looked far worse then the ones they sell... but it all depends i guess.. good luck whatever way you decide to go..

 

the fitment issue i mainly had was behind the tops it sagged a lot... so i used a bunch of heavy duty velcro and that helped.. but it still left me with some white body showing because the headliner didnt sit flush with the roof.. i used some push on edge trimming in black and now it looks great..

 

Are they a pain in the butt to install? What is push?

 

thier not to bad as long as you have the right tools.. i recommend a dremel cutting wheel makes cutting thru that plastic a breeze so you dont make a mistake.. push is the push on molding ( door protecters) i pushed them on the the back roof rail to make things a bit neater back there

 

Before you spend some money, check out the tech article about T-top headliner repairs. I did what this guy explains only I covered my entire headliner with fiberglass sheet instead of just the edges to make it extra sturdy.

If the fiberboard backing (yellow stuff) is still in one piece then this fix works fine, and you dont have to worry about the thing not fitting right since its the factory liner. Doent matter if the backing is cracked here and there since the fiberglass sheet will hold it together.

HI here's a link to our ABS T-Top Headliner kits. Being on the ABS board the ABS will not deteriorate like the factory one.It's allot sturdier too so you do not need to reuse the headliner clips.

If this is the one im thinking of its made by acme correct.. i purchased one from you and tried to get in contact with acme.. they really need to redesign it these dont fit so well.. but no contact info on them

 

Yes we sell the ACME ones.They're a great company and have been around since 1948.I do know that they put allot of time into developing their products.

If your stilll having an issue with it give me a call and I'll see if it has anything to do with the way it was installed, and what the problem areas are, and if there's a solution for it.

UPDATE:

I called the manufacturer,all of these headliners are cut exactly the same, so the trick that I was informed of is, when you install the new ABS headliner loosly install the dome light.That way you can slide around and adjust the headliner to line up with the sunvisors and place it where it needs to be. If you tighten down the dome light first, it'll make it harder for you to shift it into position. Once you have everything lined up then tighten down all of the retaining points.

yeah lining up was never the problem.. but i do appreciate your help. the sag behind the t-tops was always the problem but i remedyed i tlast summer with some velcro and it looks decient now.. but thanks for standing behind your products.. something classic industrys would laugh at me about.. thanks again

Not a problem at all. I hadn't heard about the middle sagging but that seems like a quick easy way to take care of that issue,and now you have a headliner that will last forever.

I want you guys to be happy with whatever you buy from us so if there's ever an issue with a product I'll find a solution for it.

Another update on this, I had the directions to the ABS headliners for both the console and non console T-Top cars added to our site.

The printable instructions are right in with the product,and it walks you through on how the manufacturer recommends the console be reinstalled into your thirdgen car if it was equipped with that option.

We like to make these things as simple as possible for you guys.

i bought the abs covered one from hawks third gen parts. Just ordered it and they are closed til the 12th so ill let you guys know when it comes and how it was installing it.

 

Is this going in your RS? I have a council to work with. My RS does not have one. I suppose I could leave it out, but I kinda like it, even though it's next to worthless. Keep me posted on installation.

 

Ya i ordered one for my RS because it doesn't have a console, but the red one is in my 1985 Z28 and it has a console, the one out of my 85 Z will fit perfectly into your car. let me know if you want it, and how much you want to pay for it. i don't want to pull it out of the car if you don't want it, so just let me know.

 

The headliner I need is my 86 iroc which has a council, and I would like to re install it with a new headliner. as for thaking it off your hands, let me know PM.

 

Make sure you get one that has an ABS plastic backing so that in a worse case scenario you can just have that recovered rather than losing the whole piece.. i regret that i cannot tell you where to find one.

How do you remove the council? I looked but I cannot find screw. I am thinking they are removable from the underside.

How does the t top feel under the fabric? are there any chunks missing?

 

No there are no pieces missing, and as far as i can tell there are no creases where the old board is broke, it all looks and feels really good. to tell you the truth i am surprised that it is still this good, but it is.
