Re: water inside-passenger side!

Look through the screen at the bottom of the windshield. The well on the pass side may be rotten or full of debris.

Re: water inside-passenger side!

If you look at the firewall in the engine compartment you will notice a seam that has been spot welded going horizontally. Sometimes you will notice streaks of rust running below this seam, but there is no rust visible!
Your firewall actually curves toward the rear of the car behind that seam. The factory then added the metal on top of that seam, leaving a "v" shape in that area where the wiper linkages reside. They filled that gap with some body sealer. That sealer is old! When it gets old - it cracks!!! Then the water gets behind the sealer and sits and rusts.
This seam goes right behind the evaporator housing! You can inspect this area by removing the cowling grill off. To look further down the sides you may use a mirror and a flashlight. This can rust through the firewall.

Have you ever seen a 60's mustang with a plexiglass sover over the vents between the wipers. They have the same problem - it is very costly to fix back to original, so they seal off the water. I fixed mine - but what a PITA!

Re: water inside-passenger side!

thanks for the info..but is this where the black metal piece (wiper area) meet the firewall?..behind the hood seal?...i noticed there some metal that's a little rusty..but it doesn't look like it would have water coming in from there....i have water coming into the passeger area..can't really see where it is coming in by,,i also removed the fan heater cover and no rust ...would you have a pic with an arrow where it may be ?..this is bugging me!

Re: water inside-passenger side!

is it possible that when you have the vent open that you get water inside? could it be that the tubing going to the air vetns, etc are broken or have a hole in them, or are not conntected?
take a look - that about covers everything on that side to get clear water.

That happened to my friends car too! It ended up being her air conditioning that was leaking on the passenger side. Maybe get that checked out?

Re: water inside-passenger side!

feel the carpet and see where its coming from, the water will sit ing the low spot. Feel around the kick panel and over to the firewall. I had the same problem on the 92, it was a bad door seal. You could feel a wet spot under the kickpanel leading to the low spot at your feet,

Re: water inside-passenger side!

the door seal ?..the one around the whole door ?..i think it might be the problem..i tried throwing some water near the wiper area and below the glass and no water came in ,,but when i had the leak i had the car parked downwards in the driveway and it rained quite a bit ,,,a bad door seal would make sense ..you know where i can get some?
