need help with a seat swap!

I have a 1986 trans am with a flawless interior, but poor body, and a 1988 firebird with an excellent body and new paint, but could use some new seats. i am wanting to swap the seats out. my problem is that the transam has an electronic drivers seat while the firebirds is manually adjustable. i know the seats will fit and bolt right in but, is there a way to convert the firebird to make the electronic seat work? or do i just have to swap the seat tracks and stick to the manual way? help would be much appreciated.. thanks.

Take a look when you swap the seats. Most had the wires for them. I have seem people posting about the same thing in the past. You should have the wires for it but if not just take out of the donor car.

All you need is power and ground, so if anything you could wire it fused directly off the battery and a good ground. It's a no brainer.

Re: need help with a seat swap!

the wires are not there. its a common myth spread on all boards that its all the same wiring harness throughout all cars.
that wiring hairness you have with the electric seats is worth more than $100.00.

be very careful how you take it apart. there are two important wires. one will go to the body and should be the ground attached over by the shifter.

then there is a wire which is hot. look where that wire connects into the fuse box. my electric seats needed a 25 amp fuse and i got a new harness and spliced into that very fuse.

there there are wires that go over the hump and into the passenger seat. that seat has the air pumps for lumbar and side support. it should also have two vaccume tubes - so that the pump will work on the drivers seat. apparently gm decided tha the passenger seat needed the compressor and the hot lead needed the drivers seat.

and it is one harness that goes from the drivers seat to the passenger seat.

let me know if you have any more questions i have already made the swap.

alright thanks.. yeah that makes alot more sense i figured it consisted of more than what most people make it out to be. ive heard from a mechanic that it is a lot of work and most companies would charge a lot to convert it. thats why i figured it could be done on my own. thanks again. ill let you know if i have any questions about it.

Maybe not for the seats but it is for AC and related items. Have a non AC 88 and the connectors for all the AC crap is there, clutch, hi lo pressure switch..blablabla... factory zip tied together and just left there.
