93-97 TA Gauges v6 in a v8(83 TA)

I'm doing a swap and get most the wiring hooked up and notice that the tach at idle is 1.5k, and then realized the cluster is for a v6. Is the connecter in the back the same on the V8's as the V6's and will changing it correct the incorrect reading. Also has very bad response. its drops slow and hangs so when im realy at idle it is still falling from 3k. I looked for a adjuster on the cluster and there doesn't seem to be one unless someone knows a trick. Any help would be wonderful
