Speedometer trouble

Hey, I was driving to work when my speedometer needle dropped down to zero and a poof of smoke came from behind the dash but all the other gauges still worked. Wondering if anyone has had this happen or know what it could be and how hard it is to get behind the dash.

Thanks

Re: Speedometer trouble

You probably smoked a section of the circuit board that manages all the guages in the cluster. Once you get to it, it should be pretty obvious if you saw smoke. I have a TA, not a Camaro but it is probably the same.

Accessing it isn't hard but you have to go from the front and remove the dash pieces first. Pull of the lower knee panel and the facia that surrounds the guages and AC outlets. Then remove the guage cluster and turn it over. The flexible circuit board is on the back side. Not complicated hardware anywhere in the process. Good luck.
