my headliner was pretty bad, it did not look all that bad in the car, but both front sides were ripped off, almost ripped in half(now it is), and the backs by the seat belts are pretty bad,

so here is how far i am,
those clamps were for when i do that side, there is pieces missing.




i scraped the actual headliner off of it, its too strong with out it! and i planned to put a layer on this side too.

 

does anyone know if this is how the ends are shaped?

i am not sure, both my sides are gone, a picture of one would be really nice!


its a nice little project, and while it is drying its a good time for me to make room in the garage for my car!

Maybe I should be thinking more like you. It's something you can't see anyways and if you have the skill, why not?
Save it for performance mods instead!

 

Keep the pics coming. Mine is very flimsy but I believe I have all the pieces. I am not to that part of my project but I am going to try fiberglassing mine. I figure its worth a try and if I screw it up I will not have put out a lot of cash. Then I will just get a new one.

My headliner is made from 3-4 different headliners only difference is with my approach I bonded the pieces with long strand fiberglass filler before the resin. Why apply the fiberglass on broken chunks? It makes more sense to make the headliner one piece again and then start glassing.

 

i am/was missing a few pieces, and it is pretty easy to use some cardboard/duck tape to fill in the spots.

and if you got both pieces, its easy to fiberglass them together, i also am going to scrape off almost all of the actual headliner material so that when i put the fabric on, it has something more solid to stick to.

 

I am going through similar process with coupe headliner. Yes you will need to scrape off old foam. I found that my fingers worked best intially and then followed up with a stiff brush. Don't go too hard or you will damage headliner (unless the resin the cr*p out of it). I bought high temp adhesive from Autozone, comes in orange can with blue cap. Stuff works good but becareful when spraying. Adhesive is like spiderwebs and shoots all over! You can't remove glue if it gets on good side of headliner fabric.

Also, I tired using stock interiors to order fabric since they are one of the few that sells by the yard. They initially sent me wrong color. They then sent me three more rolls that were damaged since fabric is wrapped around cardboard tube and wrapped in plastic. Tubes were bent and fabric creased. If you don't care about matching existing color 100%, Joanne Fabrics has headliner fabric with foam backing for cheap. I am going to use classic industries as they have exact colors.

BTW, I have huge roles of dark charcoal and medium grey if you need it.

 

How did this project turn out? I thought I had my hands full when mine broke into three pieces. I was able to fix mine with just a bit of glassing in the weak areas and put resin on the entire back side for additional strengthening and waterproofing.

ZZ3astro, finally finished my repair. Have some dimples in headliner but overall happy with results. Glad to see that severely damaged boards like yours and Pops' can be repaired. Good work!
