Re: Manual Shift Booth On Automatic?
I have a scientific brain! jk.It just depends on who you ask, but here's how i did mine.I started by cutting the slider & surrounding plastic out.The cut out is the same length as the indicator window. The width is as wide as i could go, 1/4 from edges on each side of shifter.I cut 2 pieces of hanger wire long enough the run the edges of the boot opening.Bend both to the same dimensions as the boot opening, solder or weld the ends.Stitch the bottom of the boot around one of the hanger wires.Stitch the 2nd about an inch lower. The 2nd one keeps the boot from snagging on the shifter mechanism.the 2nd wire should be cut a little longer since it requires a bend at the front(see pic). This bend is so the shifter wont push the boot out of place when in "park".
The right side of the boot is held in place by the top of the console. When the
shifter bezel is re-installed.

Heres a back view. The left side required me cutting part of the indicator housing(white).Where it butts up against the boot. This is what holds the boot inplace, along with a little silicone. The pics dont really show this though.

As it looks today

Ok, strange question but how did you get where you cut out to look so straight. What did you use to cut it?

Re: Manual Shift Booth On Automatic?
Good question.I used a ruler & an exacto knife to mark my line (from the underside)for the edges.I made the rough cut with a dremel too, to about 1/16 from the marked line. From there i used a course file & worked down to a finer file.I finshed it with some 600 grit sandpaper.
Be careful filing on the corners. Its easy to go too far.

im definitly gonna give it a try. its gonna be hard tryng to get those hangers together im gonna have to figure out another method to do this..
maybe crazyglue the boot to the underside of the shift plate and just let it hang up the shifter from there?
idk

Re: Manual Shift Booth On Automatic?
I attached my boot similar to 84 1LE, except I used a staple gun and gorilla glue. Heres a pic of mine with the HURST handle. I push it down to shift.

Re: Manual Shift Booth On Automatic?
Anyways umm I was at my local JK and they have a 5 speed shifter plate and my buddy there is letting it go for me for 20. He told me someone else he would sell it for 40. But it has a lil crack on one of the bold holes so i'm not sure if I should go with you guy's mods or with a 5 speed one.
Thanks. Tony.

Re: Manual Shift Booth On Automatic?
its blue. i want to put some color in my interior. i prefer an offset interior than a plain full black interior. i might go with a black boot afterwards, but i got the boot and shift **** as an xmas gift.
Re: Manual Shift Booth On Automatic?
The home grown two tone almost never looks good... It's usually just too obvious that someone removed a panel and painted the entire thing a contrasting color... It always looks like the San Francisco treat. It's not my preference, but if you like it, more power to you.
Re: Manual Shift Booth On Automatic?
once everythng is put back together and in sunlight ill take better pics. it looks alot better in person. besides the color, how about the 5 speed look? remember theres a megashifter under the boot not a factory shifter

Re: Manual Shift Booth On Automatic?
I think the blue of the console make the shifter indicator stand out too much. Maybe with a blue lens with lettering & only the letters lighting up?
Re: Manual Shift Booth On Automatic?
im most likely going black boot. once im 100%done with fitment and im ready to finalize everything, then ill probably go black boot. theres not much blue in the interior. just enough to give it some color.

Re: Manual Shift Booth On Automatic?
Look how much it hangs over though..I think if there's no blue in ur interior u shouldn't let that be the only blue piece u carry in there..IMO it looks cheap I think a nice shiny black will set that off real nice my GTA come stock with a shift boot n I love it cus I didn't have to invent some bs lol..I was thinking about it before when I had my camaro bit I got rid of it..
Re: Manual Shift Booth On Automatic?
over the front? thats because its covering the t-handle that is used to allow you to put it in gear. i didnt want to expose the handle because i wanted to make it a 5 speed look. heres a pick of it with the original megashifter setup to show what im talking about.
