thats gonna confuse some people, but i like it

it would be cool if you could eliminate the button and make the whole **** push down instead so it looks more like a manual trans

Re: T5 Shifter Plate On A Automatic.

Hey Red_Dragon_85,

Yeah I was thinking about picking up the 82' to 84' ball type shifter and painting the button red so it look for nos or something.

Anyways its only temporary because I got a mega shifter and I hate that rubber piece that it comes with so im going to get rid of that and keep it the way I have it now but with the megashifter of course. I will be buying me a solid black ball or a solid white ball or I was thinking about getting the one that b&m sells.

I like it, but if I did that I'd need to build some kind of indicator to tell me what gear I was in.

dont get a megashifter
i hate mine

you can get a plate to add to your stock shifter that will give it a ratchet action like the megashifter while still keeping stock looks.

I thought about doing something like that. Theres a thread on here were a guy takes this indicater from a sunfire and puts it in his firebird. He has the indicater ct on to his dash so he knows what gear he is on.

if you want to do the megashifter, go for it.
i was a huge proponent of it when i first got it, but the newness wears off quick and you are left with a very imprecise POS that has so many little flaws that add up to make it a terrible shifter

Re: T5 Shifter Plate On A Automatic. *Pictures*

i loved mine for almost exactly 3 months.
i praised it every day and had dreams about it (not really)
but the novelty wears off quick when it turns grey-ish and gets dirty after 2 weeks of use.
then you have to take it off and polish it
but the more you take it off to polish it, the worse it threads on, and the more likely it is to come loose the first time you actually hammer it agressively.

and in the summer, i resorted to keeping a bottle of water and a hand towel in the car at all times to cool it off so i could leave work after the car sat in the sun for 9 hours.
even with window shades it got so hot that i literally had a red mark for around 4 hours after gripping it the first time unexpectedly.

i dont have girly hands either

you cant use a generic ball with it because that would make it difficult to pull up on the "T" to get it out of park

after the 6 or 7th month of having it, and constantly taking it off to polish it, the red paint around the b&m logo came off in a big flake.

it takes extra concentration to get into reverse, and it never happens on the first try. ususally i have to wiggle it and jiggle it to get it to engage.

the reverse light microswitch is impossible to adjust and must be done correctly out of the car or is nearly impossible to correct in the car

the gear position selector cable tends to slip in the bracket that holds it causing it to read off a gear or so. the solution? clamp it tight with vicegrips... but you have to remove it from the car do so... and you have to install it to find the correct position.

ect...

Yeah I would rather get a ball type shifter and just save the t handle. Hopefully my installation goes well.

Anybody have an opinion on this http://www.bmracing.com/PRODUCTS/Com...rs/Pro-Ratchet ? I know somebody on the board has one i saw it in a thread about the megashifter, i don't know how much work it took to get it to look as nice as it did but it looked almost stock and i was wondering how hard it was to install and how well it works.

great job tony! all it needs the the ball shifter and it will look perfect.

how are you going to fit the boot to the b&m being as it is not round?

also, my car has the b&m plate and shift boot with a stock ball shifter, it looks ok in pictures but under normal use the boot deforms and it never stays in the plate right!
im changing it back to stock soon.

It looks good but I'd miss the gear selection indicator too much. A friend of mine has a car with the light for the indicator burnt out. I drove it the other day and found that to be somewhat annoying. I also drove one of my third gens that doesn't currently have much of an interior in it and without the center console, I simply have to count from first or from park. It gets old relatively quickly.

ill give you a hint.
every car made since, 1960 or so will have the same pattern
p-r-n-d-#-#-#...
not only that, but every car thats not a honda will go from park to drive with a single pull and stop
most require you to push the button in to get to the lower gears
hondas go directly from park to the next gear below drive with a single pull and its really annoying
in my camaro, before the megashifter, i had no light and had no problem figuring out what gear i was in

my bronco indicator thingy is broken.. so i count to know what gear i'm in. ****ing hard as hell at first, but got used to it and its no problem. Sometimes get mixed up with 2nd/drive, but not too bad. Camaro would be easy, i never use those lower gears.

I can figure out what gear I'm in without the indicator, but since it's there on automatic cars, it can only make things easier.

sorry, but it converts a standard shifter to a ratchet type shifter and was a plate you could bolt in.
look around on ebay

how are you going to fit the boot to the b&m being as it is not round?

also, my car has the b&m plate and shift boot with a stock ball shifter, it looks ok in pictures but under normal use the boot deforms and it never stays in the plate right!
im changing it back to stock soon.
Yeah I notice that to as well I'll probobly cut it a little more so I could fit it over the megashifter.

Wow Tony, that looks great. I was actually thinking about doing the same thing... but I didn't really know how I was going to do it or how it would look. Now, if I can get the parts, I'm doing it for sure!

I wanted a ball shifter too, because I think they look really cool (I want an 8 ball shift ****), but how does it shift? You need to push the button so it will change gears. I have the T handle shifter, so the button is on the right side. I think someone said you push down the ball? Has anyone done that? If this can work this will beat out the flamethrower exahust and be my next mod lol.

Re: T5 Shifter Plate On A Automatic. *Pictures*

Actualy you can take off the T-Handle and use the 8 ball that you want but all you have to do is press down every time you want to shift though. The reson I know that it could work is because the wifes civic came with a T-Handle and I changed it to a regular center button press down shifter.

Im glad some people like it and actually get to do my idea.

Re: T5 Shifter Plate On A Automatic. *Pictures*

I found an 8 ball shift for an automatic here: http://www.flameball.com/EghtBall/EB-0.htm but it is kind of expensive, and there isn't a picture of it. I'm going to autozone tonight for something else, I'll see if there is anything like it there.

It is still really cool, and I will probably get it, but I think it would be even better if the whole **** could be pushed down, so it looks more like a manual transmission. (like RED_DRAGON_85 said).

I think the reason they come that way is so they aren't accidentally knocked into reverse/park. The button requires more than simply bumping the **** down and forward which is possible otherwise.

It makes sense on what you say I couldnt imagine going like 60 and pushing the shifter into reverse that wouldnt be a happy image.

yes the reason for the t handle is to lock the shifter from going in reverse. im liking the 5 speed plate. if i can find a plate, ill try it out on my megashifter. the shift **** on a megashifter is 1/2x20 on the threads. heres a pic with my ball **** on a megashifter setup

i would like to find a leather boot to fit the automatic plate.

hmm i just had an idea, i could probably find or make one fit the mega shifter plate i have, and get a cable for the shift indicator, and use it on my stock shifter...
