seatbelt trim won't fit back together

I pulled apart some of the interior trim in my 1991 trans am. The plastic piece over the seatbelt mount will not fit back properly. Either the piece will properly align over the seat belt, and leave a gap between the piece and the outside wall of the car. OR, it will fit flush against the outside wall, but the seatbelt plastic portion will not fit through.

Some of the foam has dry rotted, and I will replace that, but I don't think that is causing any issues with fitment.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Bill

I'm not following what you're saying, which seat belt? front back, bottom top mount, maybe some pictures?

Re: seatbelt trim won't fit back together

hhmm, try to get a pic, I know there are a few plastic screws that are supposed to keep all the hatch plastic trim pieces flush to the outside wall. Are those in place? They are pretty huge plastic screws, you should see the holes around the edge. I say bolt up the seat belt covers then try to close the gap with the plastic screws. If this doesn't work, take a pic for a better look (for us)...
