What is this light for?

It comes on sometimes when I go over a bump or I tap around it with my finger.

The red LED in front of the power mirror switch? It's an aftermarket alarm LED.

That one is supposed to throw a little light on the HVAC controls. On the cars where it's actually wired up, it doesn't do enough to really matter. Many cars have the lense but no light bulb behind it. Both Camaro and Firebirds could have them.

Re: What is this light for?

I have this light in my 92 camaro its a stock light. It works and gets brighter and dimmer when you turn the light switch. I don't think its enough to notice but it works.

Some of them use a standard #194, and some of them are a sealed bulb/lense assembly like an LED. There might be some that use a #37 bulb. I've seen just as many cars without the bulb or the socket at all as I have ones that have it.

Edit: the one up above with the yellow lense is a sealed type. If you turn it 90* counter clockwise it'll unlock from the hole in the panel. Some late Firebirds have the same type light with a red lense under the panel with the rear defrost, trunk release, and fog light switches.
