It was some aftermarket dealer install back in the day, nothing from GM decided what cars got it or not.

Re: 160 speedo 1le??? is this for real

After market as TraviZ mentions. Here's the info:

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/atta...-speedo160.gif

It appears that the same fellow offered the speedo on site. Note that he was told that the speedo was after market but the craigslist ad still claims "rare factory."

EDIT: He's come down $250 from the original price:

List 1LE in the parts description and the price increases 100%. Same way some people say it is a Corvette part, like it make it more expensive.

I've got one of these 160MPH speedometers in my 1985 Trans Am. I never really thought about it too much.

Yeah i've seen these before, i'm not too fond of how the font doesnt match the rest of the gauges. My 83 Z28 has the 140mph speedo that has the "Z28" logo on it. As far as I know that was the only GM dealer offered add on as far as speedos went.

I haven't looked at it in awhile and I've never driven my 1985 T/A. I started stripping it apart for paint and body since day one. (It didn't run when I got it.) As I recall the font matched on mine.

Well I looked at it again and it doesn't quite match the font on the other gauges.

Re: 160 speedo 1le??? is this for real

The guy is still trying to sell it on C.L. here in St. Louis. He also has an ad out in Springfield, MO. He still wants $500 for it and I remember when I called him initially way back in September of 2009 asking about it & he said he wanted $750 for it!!!

Now that I think of it is there any place that can make this for my 88 IROC? I saw the original ad on here in .gif format but I'm not sure if they're still in business.

The guy is on crack. There is a reason he hasn't been able to unload it for that price. They aren't special.

If you want 160 MPH speedo get overlays for all your gages, not expensive. Then you will have that 160 or 180 MPH look. Picture of my 145 MPH overlays.

Actually that's not a bad idea.
