speedometer in my 1984 z28

alright I've looked all over the place for new gauge clusters for my 1984 camaro, all I've found were gauge overlays, if i change out the overlays how do i get the speed to be in sink with the overlays, i don't want it to say I'm doing 140 and I'm only going 85 that would be stupid...lol, is it possible to find a gauge cluster for my car that goes up to 145?

any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to TGO. A 145 overlay on an 85 mph speedo head won't show the correct speed. Swapping a later cluster into your 85 will cause some electrical gremlins. Your best bet is to simply swap the speedo head of your choice (85, 110 or 140) into your current cluster. No adjustment is necessary.

The 82-84 dual needle speedometer is part of the car's identity. It's a unique feature. Sure it's a little silly that it only goes to 85mph, but when the needle is wrapped well into the metric side it always made me smile. I'd save the money, and enjoy the unique aspect of owning an early thirdgen.

the oil crisis crap, cars that seemed to use a lotta oil were heavily taxed, hence the low factory readouts on hp and such when 10 years earlier the v8s were groundshaking powerplants

i think i can do this though, wen it goes past 85 into the km/h its like adding onto the mph lol, if it goes to 5km/h then its doing 90mph so on and so on, this way it keeps the classic look and i still know how fast im going.....correct?
