Re: how to change odometer reading
I am sure you can send it to a shop and they can do it professionaly. If you want to do it yourself, just start unscrewing it till you can get to the wheels. Adjust them where you need them to be and reassemble.

Re: how to change odometer reading
Don't use a drill motor and turn it back. The speedo has an anti-tampering tell-tale that will show up if you do this.
The presence of this anti-tampering mechanism is debatable, but it's referenced in my owner's manual.

Re: how to change odometer reading
I could tell you how to do it, but I'm not going to... There's no reason to have a thread on the forum so all the shady a holes can fake low mileage. If you can't figure it out on your own, you should probably just leave it alone. Document the old mileage and the new mileage and keep the document with the car.

Swap the odometer rolls from the old speedo into the new one.

I know that was probably sarcasm, but I thought Apeiron's suggestion was a great one
Re: how to change odometer reading
It's not so much that anyone doubts your integrity with an entire 21 other posts not asking how to alter an odometer. As much as this is a public forum and any information posted here exists forever in cyberspace, where someone looking to misrepresent a car might find it and use it to commit fraud. Realistically, all of these cars are mileage exempt at this point. But I still don't really feel comfortable telling everyone in the world how to adjust the mileage.

Re: how to change odometer reading
im not sure if every one nows this, but you all now its illegal to tamper with the od at all...but if you dont care i would say take apeiron is right. or lol you can turn it by hand with out taking it apart, as mentioned ealier a drill will mess it up but by hand it should be fine, may take a while tho.

What he's doing isn't tampering:
Title 49 United States Code Section 32704
(a) Adjusting Mileage. - A person may service, repair, or replace
an odometer of a motor vehicle if the mileage registered by the
odometer remains the same as before the service, repair, or
replacement. If the mileage cannot remain the same -
(1) the person shall adjust the odometer to read zero; and
(2) the owner of the vehicle or agent of the owner shall attach
a written notice to the left door frame of the vehicle specifying
the mileage before the service, repair, or replacement and the
date of the service, repair, or replacement.

Re: how to change odometer reading
He is 100% wright Note any changes of a cluster and or odemeter and If u sell the car place a sticker on the driners side stating what was done. ex.Changed odemeter original reading 111,111 new odemeter reading at time of change 000,000 date 12/12/1200) I would also print and sign my name along with the date when this was done. Re: how to change odometer reading
something I thought would be "cool" is after a new engine swap (from a newly built engine) to turn the odometer to "0" miles since I associated the odometer with engine mileage and not chasis miles. Ofcourse, I know this is not legal, but I don't plan on getting rid of my car so I wouldn't purposefully deceive anyone. I always thought that would be better than trying to do math everytime you'd like to get accurate mileage for your engine for whatever reason (break-in period, oil changes, etc)... I might just do that anyway. I'm not worried about it being illegal since there are already a few "anti-federal" enhancements (*cough cough* exhaust) on my car and my state doesn't do emissions testing...

Re: how to change odometer reading
i dont really see why it matters so much what the odometer says anyways
but... swapping the rolls would be the way to go though, i think.
good luck....
