De-optioning my interior?
I like my "Group 2" option package for the most part, but I do really like the look of the "base" cloth seats that came with the standard RS coupes in '92. The interiors with the single section rear seat. I wanted to reapolster my interior anyways, the seats are in okay shape. What do you guys think of putting the cheaper group 1 seats in my car? I'd have to change the door cards as well, which need to be replaced. What else would have to be changed? I see a lot of 5-speed cars that have those base seats in them and I sort of like the look, but I don't want to do anything that will de-value the car. Are the base seats more comefortable? They look like they might hug you a little more in the corners.
What do you guys all think?

I've always loved my split rear seats, because I can put one side to carry long things, yet still have a back seat if needed.

How hard is it to go from split to full or the other way around?
My 84 currently has the full back, but I have a 92 parts car that has the split. I'm guessing you would have to weld the piece on the center hump that the tabs go in (or cut it out if you want to go full from split). There is also the part that the seat locks into to keep it up. Doubt my 84 has it on the drivers side to screw into...

Split to full is simple. No need to remove those center 2 pivot posts.
Full to split would require the center 2 pivot mounts.
Full rears have a latch post on both sides & the 1 unlocking lever pulls both latches loose.

i love the feel of leather seats, but they look terrible in most cars, especially older cars or cars where the rest of the interior is cloth.
mustangs especially have this problem IMO
4th gens have a good interior for leather IMO
as for the value of the car, getting cloth will certainly de-value the car, but i wouldnt worry about that too much.
when do you plan on selling it?
if you answer is anything other than "next week" dont worry about it

Now, looking at the car in the pic of the first post, the seat accents look like a darker grey color. What color would my interior panels need to be?

If that's the case, then my 85 full rear seat must be from another car (not F-body) because it only has (and ever had, apparently) the release lever on the passenger's side with nothing on the driver's side. Unless the seats changed between 85 and 87?

That's how the rear seat in my '85 was, a release lever only on the passenger side.

Yes, the early cars only had a release lever on the passenger side.

As has already been pointed out, the single piece rear seat back only had the passengers side release lever up until the addition of rear shoulder belts. On the late one piece rears each lever has to be pulled individually. The earlier ones don't even have the mount under the panel for the drivers side anchor.
The base model seats are OK, they aren't as comfy and give less support then the custom seats. The base interior cars also got the vinyl door panels instead of cloth. I had the 91-92 style high back buckets in my 83 back in 96... They were a step up from the 83 high back buckets, but crap compared to the custom sets in my 87 Iroc and 91 RS. If you want the high back seats, just get a set out of a 4th gen, the late 3rd gen style don't wear very well at all, they fall apart on the sides.

Thanks for all the info. Yes, I'd have to change the door cards and the center console to the plastic one with no carpet on the sides.
What color do the plastic panels and carpet need to be on the car then to match the color of the seats of the Camaro in the photo?

But as stated just do it if you want to. However I wouldn't overlook 4th gen seats. If you are concerned about the value of the car I would keep your old seats.

I wouldn't think that replacing leather with cloth would affect the value at all in these cars, especially if the leather is not in good shape. I don't think on older cars leather really matters for value, especially on a camaro.
But as stated just do it if you want to. However I wouldn't overlook 4th gen seats. If you are concerned about the value of the car I would keep your old seats.
