I have an opportunity to get a 4th gen dash COMPLETE for $100. Only thing about it is the airbag on the dash has been opened. Does anyone know if the spot for the airbag to come through on the dash is replaceable?

...or, has anyone used a dash that has had the airbag already blown? I'm open for ideas.

I'm in the same boat. I found a company that makes an cover for $75.00. I'll post the link when i get home. It may end up cheaper/eaiser to find a dash without a blown airbag. I was able to use my blown cover as it was still in good shape.

 

looks to me like the bag just pops open the door on the dash to deploy. if thats the case it shouldnt be hard to replace. i know on some newer dash bags, they actually blow part of the dash apart to deploy. but im no expert on the 4th gen dash.

 

Not sure if it's legal to ship them, but I see undeployed airbags on ebay all the time for sale, and I've even bought one there before - might be able to just replace it yourself for same as that $75 coverplate mentioned above.

 

The cover is part of the dash and has nothing to do with the airbag. When the airbag goes off it tears the dash material around the cover. only way to fix it and make it look new is to buy a new dash. Here's a link to the only aftermarket cover i could find.

My 4th gen dash had a blown air bag see 1 RAPID 1 ,cut away all the bag and metal.Then trim the lid and glue it on,or find a new (blown) one at the wrecking yard !

 

Cut it all out & use it as a (doorless) glove box. Or fab up a door for it.

 

now that sounds like an idea.

 

Well, I wasted 60 minutes of driving only to find out that the dash was not only missing half of everything, but also cracked. What a waste of time.

 

just remove the airbag and glue the door back on
