Replacing speakers under dashpad. Need to deactivate airbag?

I was reading my Haynes manual, do you really need to deactivate the airbag system when taking off the dashpad and replacing speakers. I have a 91. Any experience from those w/90-92 w/the airbag? Thanks!

There's no reason to deactivate the airbag. There's no sensors anywhere around the dashpad to worry abouy.

Just disconnect the negative cable from your battery, always a safe bet when working on ANYTHING pertaining to the electrical system.

yea you could dissconnect your negative battery cable but then you will lose all of your programed radio stations. Who would want to go through all that trouble to reprogram the radio stations. That is just boring and time consuming. LOL Your Dash pad and speaker removal has nothing to do with your ait bags. the only reason it is recommended to deactivate it is because there is a slim chance that you may ack something the wrong way and sent them off. But that is a very slim chance because the air bag system has to have to triggers to set it off. and there is no way you can manage to do that while replacing speakers. But just in case i am wrong dont sit in the drivers seat hunched over the steering wheel while dissconneting the wires.LOL
