1991 gta

Hello,

I've got 1991 trans am gta. I have a problem with my trunk hatch pull down motor. I haven't got it. I'll buy it but there are two different mechanisms in this year. Which one is mine. I lernd that, it depends on build month.

How can I know it.

Thanks

Kahraman

Re: 1991 gta

You can try inputting the VIN into the Compnine database here. Later model cars, especially 1991 and 1992 cars come up in that database most of the time. Earlier ones, not so much. I'm not sure how accurate the build date information is but but I have little reason to doubt it.

The RPO information seems spot on with the SPID found in my car. My car is a 1992 car which all had the later style power pull down hardware. It was built in December of 1991 according to Compnine. If true then I'd figure that most of the cars built for the 1991 model year in mid to late 1991 would have the same pull down hardware as 1992 cars do. Then again I'm uncertain of the actual cut off date. The best thing to do is remove the rear most cargo area plastic and take a picture. Its easy to tell by looking at it. I've had several cars, 1985, two 1987's and my 1992 car. I've worked on several others so I've seen many of these pull down motors. If you post pics I can tell you which one you have.

I'm going to bet your car has the earlier style power pull down hardware then. Of course we'll only know for sure if you take a picture of it.

I agree with that.

The build date gives away that it's the early style, but the fact you're having problems with it is a hint also. The later style pull down doesn't have the plastic motor housing, or the nylon guides, and generally doesn't fail like the early ones do.

Mine did. Its important to note that parts are harder to find than the older style ones are and when you do they are pretty expensive. That can be said for both styles though. I think the reverse sensing switch is bad on mine.

Re: 1991 gta

those dates are useless

according to GM (and their vin break), I should have the newer style motor

but guess what? I have the older style motor
