Help - How to remove seat belts??
Help - How to remove seat belts??
Hey guys, I'm thinking of going back to the junkyard to get some seat belts, front and rear. What exact tool or what size wrench or what have you, do I need to remove them? Please help. Thanks people

13mm - wrench and socket (short socket, not deep well) for the fronts - I think rears take 13mm as well.
Fronts - move seat all the way forward, get the rear two nuts, then move seat back, get the front two nuts.
Rears - under the center front edge of the seat cushion, there's a bolt - remove it and the cushion comes out. Then the backs are held at the lower outside corners.
BUT ... you should never go to the JY without a complete basic set of tools - there's no telling what you might find!

check the topic "seat belt replacement, how much work?" a couple spots down. I think that will help tremendously.

Seat belts are held in by torx bolts T-47 or T-50 and I believe 13 mm bolts

Re: Help - How to remove seat belts??
I've done many seat belt set removals and from my success, the following has worked well for me.
You'll need a ratchet and a T47 bit. Bring some WD40 or PB Blaster with you, as since there is moisture present in these cars a lot (especially once they start living in a junkyard), many times, the bolts will be rusty - most noticeably the rear seat belt receiver bolts. After letting the spray penetrate a few minutes, seat the bit and then gently tap the top of it with your ratchet to give it a good fit (and also to prevent stripping). I usually push down on the ratchet with my left hand as well while turning it the first few times.

Sometimes the seatbelt bolts have been thread locked in. I usually try to find the longest handled ratchet I can, to help with leverage.

How do you remove the rear seat belt trim that covers the retractors?

Thank you. I followed your advice and it worked. I ordered the correct part off Amazon.
It requires a larger socket attachment which I had.
I was so happy when it loosened!
After 40 years, I was not sure I would be able to get it to move.
I got the new part (brand new) off ebay.

Seat belt bolts in the floor are Torx Plus, not Torx. That's why y'all are having so much difficulty, you're using the wrong tool.

No, you just used it not knowing any better.
TP45 (Torx Plus) is the right tool. You will find it a lot easier to loosen and tighten the bolt, and without risk of rounding the head.

Some good reading here. https://www.finepowertools.com/hand-...-vs-torx-plus/I'll have to order one of these for the re-assembly.
