Re: Auto shift **** removal??

To remove the ball shifter, first thing you do is pull out the button.Once thats removed if you look inside you should see a C type clip that attaches to the top of the shift lever. You need to pry that clip off the lever and once thats done the shifter ball will slide off.

Or do like I did and force the shift ball down the shifter then take the snap ring off with a set of snap-ring pliers.

The shifter ball is not ment to slide all the way down on the lever. It should have a small metal tab on the inside that locks it on the shift lever and keeps it from falling down

Re: Auto shift **** removal??

If you have a later model square shift **** there's a thing that looks like a giant staple on the front of the lever below the **** that you pry out

I have a 84 also and there is a snap ring under the button to
release the ****.
Yours could be different and have the "giant staple" holding it
on. Check out this pic. and note the arrow pointing to the
staple:

Hi all,
New member. Just bought a 1984 Z28 Convertible Roadster (2 seater Autoform Mod). If I say anything stupid, it is because I am new to this (been a 69-70 Mustang guy all my life-but a great car is a great car). My ball DOES slide all the way down and I do not see a spot for the small metal tab. Any photos of that and is it a replacable piece?
Thanks
-Bill

T shift ***** are threaded on. Unscrew counter clockwise, same direction almost everything unscrews.
