Power Seat Trouble

I have searched and can't find anything on my problem. I am removing the interior to have it re-done. So far, with the help of some information I found on TGO; I now have everything out except the drivers front seat. Here is the issue, I have a power front seat that isn't functioning and is pushed all the way back. I have gotten the two front bolts out as well as the right rear (got it with a open end wrench and a bunch of band-aids) but I can't get to the last bolt. It is almost like part of the power seat mechanizem is covering the nut. Anyone have any ideas, all I can think of is to get a drill and drill out the stud from the underside but this foesn't seem to be a really good idea?

Any help would be appreaciated.

Re: Power Seat Trouble

Is it the seat motor or the power supply that's the issue? If it a power problem, you can connect a battery directly to the seat temporarily to get it moving. Even if the for/aft doesn't work, possibly the raise/lower might work and you could raise it enough to give you room to stick your blood-encrusted wrench back in there.

Re: Power Seat Trouble

Good point, I am not really sure.

I replaced the fuse today (just in case) and everything is still dead. But honestly I don't know if thefre is power to the unit. I was digging around under the seat feeling around for a plug or any bolts that might be holding the motor to the seat bracket and couldn't find anything. After reading this I think you are right, I probably need to determine which is the problem. I will try to do this after work tomorrow.

Thanks for the ideas, I hope it helps.

I've used the battery method several times in bone yards. You can also use a test light at the connection and at the switch to verify power--or the lack of it.

Hope to see you at some of the Topeka/Lawrence get-togethers or cruise-ins. Since you're a Kansan, you might be interested in the following site:

I am probably going to have to wait till the weekend to try this (I hate it when daylight savings time goes off, can’t get anything done) unless I can sneak away from work early some afternoon this week. Hopefully this trick will let me get the seats out so I can send them out for new upholstery while I work on the electrical issues.

James – I appreciate the offer to hit the cruise nights around here but my car is still pretty rough from sitting a few years. I probably need to finish a couple of projects before hitting the shows (I am adverse to being laughed at). Right now I am honestly not too sure I could make to Lawrence and back without breaking down. I am trying the get the interior and the underside (reared and suspension) completed this winter with the idea of getting a new engine/transmission put together next year. Once that is done I will start cruising in earnest.

Thanks for the advice, I will let everyone know if this works later in the week.

Re: Power Seat Trouble

With car or without, hitting shows/cruises offer a good way to associate with others of similar interests who might be able to offer advice or help. Anyway, good luck with the project. Hope to see you at some point.

Re: Power Seat Trouble

Turned out to be a power issue. Used some jumpers and got the seat moved forward so I could get the last bolt out. I guess while the seats are out being re-covered I need to fix the power seat or convert it to a manual mechanizem. Thanks everyone for the help, I am not sure I could have figured this out on my own. I will post pictures when I get this back together. Thanks again.
