Broken Seatbelts

Both drivers side and passenger side sag, and don't stop when pulled fast. They seem to be broken, and very dangerous. Both belts always have plenty of slack when on.

Is it possible to repair seat belts, or what kind of place would?

Re: Broken Seatbelts

i opted to grab a used set to replace mine; much less expensive than getting them repaired and less troublesome then taking them apart. check with hawks or thirdgen ranch, they should have set for ya

Re: Broken Seatbelts

Sometimes the belt is just twisted up in the retractor. Pull it out al the way and check for this first.

Re: Broken Seatbelts

It's virtually imposible for your hand/arm to jerk the belt hard enough quickly enough for it to catch, so just because you can't make it catch doesn't mean it won't when the right forces are applied to it.

I'm with the above, ebay yourself a nice set.

Hello camaronewbie!!

He could spend 15 minutes, and possibly save himself $$$.$$ by checking out the thread for the fix!! He has nothing to lose, as his seat belts don't work properly right now any ways!! Technically, right now, his three point belt system (shoulder/lap belt) is a two point system (lap belt) without the shoulder belt working properly!!

P.S. The pulling out of the belt fast by hand, will lock up the belt, (if the retractor has a webbing inertia lock), which I have not seen in a 1982 - 1989 thirdgen, but may have come out in the late (1990 - 1992) thirdgen, and most likely in the fourth gen!!

Re: Broken Seatbelts

I'm pretty sure the shoulder belt mechanism has an inertia actuated locking device that is only going to work when you are braking. Sitting still you can pull it out easily, but try doing it while braking and see if it works any better
