Anyone Found A Way To Fabricate A New Headliner?
Pretty much exactly what the title would suggest. The factory headliner is shot & i would like to know if anyone has found a method of fabricating a replacement.

re-covering the existing one is not hard to do. assuming the backing is in good shape.

its way too simple to fix your existing one. no offense i think its more of common sense. lol what i did was go to the JY found a decent one went to hobby lobby found the color i want and then get spray addhesive (spell check) and line everything up and cut and spray.

I took a original headliner out of a junk yard Camaro. Removed the cloth outer liner. Reinforced the back of the foam pad with some fiberglass cloth and spray on adhesive. Sanded the front down some. Went to a fabric store and bought a sheet of black vinyl cloth. The same you see on weight benches etc. Sprayed with spray on adhesive and applied the vinyl. Let it set up over night. Did the same with kick and sail panels. It was my first attempt at this kind of work. I can see were I made some mistakes. I did not sand it down enough and every little dimple and small wave shows up when using spray on adhesive. I'm sure someone with more experience with upholstery could have done a much better job. If you have a old head liner laying around and have the skills I can see were this technique would work. Like I said I rushed it. Live and learn.

Just a thought...if you have a t-top car, and the headliner is only drooping in the center (like mine), consider an overhead console. They're pretty cheap used as long as you don't have to have the flashlight, and they add some good looks and utility to the car, not to mention covering up a sagging headliner.

I am going tell you what I did to fix my headliner problem. Not only was the cloth drooping but the cardboard backing was cracked. To fix the crack, what I did was go to Pep Boys for fiberglass mat and resin. I straighten the backing as best as I could and laid the fiberglass over the crack to give it some strength (make sure it is not on the cloth side and it has about a 3 inch over lap from side to side of the crack). As for the cloth, I picked mine up at a fabric outlet Called Jo anne's. They actually call it headliner material. Well, the adheisive I 'borrowed' from work. It as been a little over 10 years and it is still holding up. I hope this helps someone. Guy
