speedo cable and buzzer problem

I took the cluster out of my 89 iroc to fix the tack. Ever since i took it out i notice the door/light buzzer stays on all the time whan the car is running. It didn't do this before any body have any ideas as to why this might be?

The second thing is my speedo cable... i got it back on and it half work and makes a grinding sound, i assume this is bc i don't have it on right but is there a way to tell or a trick to putting it back on?

Thanks,

Its a door light and the buzzer staying on?
Does the door light stay on when the car is not running and the key is out of the ignition? Does the buzzer stay on when the key is not in the ignition?

Maybe one of you door jamb switches is out of adjustment and the door is not conatcting and pushing it in. O a wire for that circuit got grounded.

Check the door jamb swicthes. There is the pin or button that the door makes contact with. It is inside of a sleeve and the sleeve is inside the nut. That sleeve pulls out or pushes into the nut for adjustment.
You can push on the button and if the light goes out then that is the case. To adjust, just use some pliers, don't crush it, and pull the sleeve out some. When the door closes it will push the button and then the sleeve if its out to far.

Sounds like the cluster is not on all the way.If you dont tighten the 10mm nuts (2) at the bottom (in the warning light ports). You will have all sorts of wierd problems. One of them being the buzzer not shutting off.

Speedo noise could be the cable is not fully seated. You should have heard a click if the cable seated correctly. You should not be able to pull it off either if its on right.

well i took the cover off to check the bolt and they were tight and the buzzer is still on the the whole time while the car is running. any other suggestions? I don't know if this matters or not but I did start the car once or twice when the cluster was all the way out.

I agree with 84. I'd remove the nuts, pull the cluster out, reposition it, then reseat it. I doubt that the cable is fully seated either. With the cluster in place, find the cable housing, make sure the cable itself, which is rectangular, is aligned with the female speedo head so that the cable actually fits into the slot. Push until you hear a click.
