Modifying overhead console...

I did a search and didn't come up with much. Have any of you guys done any over the top mods to your overhead console? Besides LED lights....

I kind of feel like doing something different and getting rid of those ugly selector wheels and swapping in an overhead display from like a '95-'00 explorer. It would take quite a bit of modification but would be a nice 1 off piece.

So while I'm on the subject since I will probably mangle and need to repair the console itself in the process does anyone know of a paint that matches anywhere close to the tan interiors?

Pic of the overhead display below.

I would like to see something done with this as well... At least a compass and outside/inside temp. HATE those selector wheels and feel the dome light is too far to the rear. The aimable map light sucks too!

Both are "much" improved with LED's.

IIRC, Rustoleum (among other companies makes paint for plastics).

I have been thinking of upgrading to L.E.D.'s... I think The thing I hate most is the selector wheels...

A worthwhile effort, I think. Anyway, perhaps the link below will be helpful, should you decide to go that direction:
