Trunk Release for 1989 camaro

I have an 1989 camaro rs that I am working on.

The car was a repo, and like many repos it doesnt have keys. The ignition has been changed (disabled vats with potentiometer under the dash), and the doorlocks have been changed.

However the rear hatch is stuck down (the locking mechanism is closed, its not the lifters). I plan on getting either a new lock for the rear, or just having a new key made by a locksmith (whichever is cheaper). But until then I would like to be able to open the rear hatch.

I know that some do not have this feature, But the vehicle has power locks, power windows, power mirrors, and even the little clock in the center console. But I just cant seem to find a trunk release button. (and google has been less than helpful).

So any Ideas of where to find the trunk release?

Re: Trunk Release for 1989 camaro

might have to climg into the trunk and try to pull the panel in front of the latch and manually open it. at least i think you can do it that way.

Re: Trunk Release for 1989 camaro

The trunk release button was in between the two power window switches - if it's not there then it does not have power trunk release (unless a PO removed the switch, but the hole would still be there for the switch). Sounds like something was done with center console, because 1989 cars didn't have the console clock from factory. I'd take center console top off and see if I can find evidence of the trunk release switch.
