Seats too HARD?

I dont' know about the rest of you, but sometimes driving my camaro can be a literal PITA, if you follow me. I have 4th gen seats in my car, and it feels like they have literally 1 MM of foam in them. It would be more comfortable riding on a park bench for long drives.

I came THAT CLOSE to replaceing the front seats with seats from a cavalier or sunfire, but I talked myself out of that because I hated the idea of the front seats not matching the back.

I decided to get a 4X18x18 block of foam from the fabric store, and I cut it into two 2x18 by18 blocks. it would have been smarter to get that size to begin with, but they were out, and I didn't feel like going from store to store looking for more foam. Besides, the 4 inch block was just a little more expensive than the 2 inch block would have been

I cut the sides and bottom of each block to match the shape of the seat bottom.

put it in the seat under a seat cover to keep in in place

then did the same for the other side

I know these seat covers are nothing to brag about, but not only do they keep the foam in place, they will protect the seats to keep them nicer longer.

when the rest of the car is show car quality, I can pull off the covers and the foam and have matching seats.

I just did the first "test sit"... they feel great! I can't wait to take the car to work tomorrow.

Hey, anything that works! Better than what my Grandmother used to do, which was get a throw pillow and then sit on that. (I believe that was more of a HEIGHT issue, rather than a comfort issue.)

Re: Seats too HARD?

I added 2" of high density foam to my existing seats before I recovered them with a kit from Hawks. The covers were a bit difficult to slip on, but the end result was better than expected.

I used a 2 1/2 yard roll of foam from Jo Ann's and Loc-Tite spray adhesive. They ended up looking like this before I put the covers on.

Re: Seats too HARD?

yeah, I rememeber your thread about that, and if I was removing the seat covers I would be totally doing that, but this was something easy and temporary until I'm ready do something else.

Re: Seats too HARD?

You know, those bead seat covers look really uncomfortable, but they actually do feel good! Had a customer that had them in his BMW and was really surprised! He told me they helped him to keep from sweating too much on the hot leather.
