Re: factory steering wheel

You can get the steering wheel puller from Autozone or one of the other chains as a loaner. Outside of that it's pretty easy.

If your tilt is loose you may consider tightening it when you swap. There's some threads here that walk you thru that with pics.

Re: factory steering wheel

I don't have the stick coming from the steering column to tilt the wheel.. Don't know if it had it from factory or not.. I don't see bolts to loosen up to pull it...

Re: factory steering wheel

Then you've got a non-tilt column. Nothing to tighten.

Re: factory steering wheel

I've done this a few times.

1. Borrow a steering wheel puller as mentioned (I got one from VIP).
2. Use a 4-star lug wrench. One of the heads will fit the bolt perfect and with the leverage you get, it will be super easy to spin off the bolt.
3. Don't forget your needle nose pliers; you'll need to remove the holding pin
4. The horn will be attached by a thin wire. Carefully slide that off

Re: factory steering wheel

Can you post a pic of the grant steering wheel? I've got one as well, and if it's similar, then you don't need to pull those hex bolts. All you'd need to do is remove the horn button. I've found a suction cup, like the ones used to attach things to windows, works well for this.

Ok. Sounds good. I'll take one when I get home and post it up. Thanks for your help.

Re: factory steering wheel

It's a two piece setup. You'll need to remove the allen wrench screws to access the underneath. The center cap (which say's 'grant' or 'gt' or other) pops out as well.

Re: factory steering wheel

IIRC, the Grant wheel can't be removed with a typical puller.

Re: factory steering wheel

I looked at it last night and popped the center out.. There was one nut in the middle.. Is that what I've got to twist out?

Re: factory steering wheel

Remove the nut (and safetly clip if there is one), then use the appropriate puller.
