What is the diffrence in a 82 Z28 dash pad and a 84 Z?

hey recently I bought a dash cap for my 1982 z28 it didnt fit exact .I noticed that a a 1983 and up was diffrent part #.What is the diffrence ? and could some one replace the one on my car with a diffrent year? it seems to be right, but I know the diffrences are probely very suddle.Do the dash caps not fit perfect. The two vents on the ends don't match the cap exact,I say the cap should have the holes about 3/4 to a inch set deeper towards the windsheild. And the top of the cover doesnt fit flat on the dash it leaves about 1/4 gap between the cover and the dash.I,m try to determine if its a not exact fit mold or if I have a diffent year dash in my car?

The 82 dash pad is slightly different (from what I remember it has the fake stitching along the edge and a slightly different profile). The newer style pad (pad not the cover) will fit the 82 dash, once you have a newer style dash pad you can use the dash pad cover you have.

I have never seen a cover that fits the 82 dash pad (does not mean they do not exist I have just never seen one).
