"I've been really lucky with my dash - no cracks!"

I used to say that all the time.

Then this happened :

At least its a straight line, dead center. Still bothers the crap out of me. So what should i do? Try one of those crappy covers? Buy a whole new one for $400? Ignore it? Put some gaffers tape over it?

Re: "I've been really lucky with my dash - no cracks!"

I have a full size dash mat, looks great! some people use the one's that only fit half way down the pad. Mine is a perfect fit. I will get some pics and show you. Tomorrow when its light out. Or refinish like alot of people on here. There are a few guys on here that have made them look almost exactly factory. Look for the post under dash pads.

There's a NOS one on ebay for $1200, lol.

EDIT: I just noticed it's also listed on this site's classifieds for a grand.

The best advice I can give you is to get one out of a parts car! I paid 20 bucks for a dash with one little crack thats barely noticable! good luck!

Yeah, it happens to them all, mine got it's first and so far only crack that runs up into the left speaker grill about a year ago. I'm expecting more soon.

My dash is near perfect except for a crack on the left front area where someone obviously used it to pull themself up...

Anyone want to buy the old dash? Only 1 crack :P

Also... what can i use to soften up the "new" dash? I heard black magic tire wet will soften it up.. is this true?

I really like Meguiar's Natural Shine (Autozone / Wal-mart, etc). I spray it on, rub it around with my hand, and leave it on overnight. Then, I rub it off the next day and buff it with a microfiber cloth. Even dashes with faded spots from sun end up looking like new. It might takes mutiple applications (for example, on your cracked dash) to get the deep shine back, but only one or two for your new dash. This is almost like a paste - almost. Smells really good too oddly enough.

black magic tire wet, spray on till it puddles and leave windows up in the hot sun and let it bake all day. Thick oily stuff and will soak in and keep it soft.

good on tires too.
