A-pillar trim for T-tops.

The A-pillar trim for t-tops... Does anyone know what the difference is? Checking parts numbers, I see 2 different parts number for an 82-92 model. The first type seems to cover everything from 82-part of 91. The other seems to cover the rest of 91 to 92. I can't imagine what they might have changed, but I do not want to buy an incorrect pillar piece just in case it's something that can't be worked with.

I don't know - I know the T-tops had a larger pin in the later years (actually, the pin itself wasa the same, but later years had a plastic sleeve over the pin that made it larger diameter), so it might have to do with the hole in the plastic A-pillar trim for the T-top pin. But othert han that theory, I wouldn't have a clue, since the pin-style T-tops are all interchangeable.

Re: A-pillar trim for T-tops.

Hmm, well, my vin falls far under what the listed cut off is for the 82-91 and my t-tops use the fat pin style. I gave mine a once over and looked at some pillar trim up for sale and the ones that show the hole for the pin, it doesn't look any different than mine. So, I can't imagine what could be different about the pillar trim made for the later 91 and 92 cars.

My 86 had the OEM T-Tops (just a small pin). But then I acquired a set of later year T-Top glass that have the large pin. Get this, that large pin is actually a spring loaded sleeve with a small pin that sticks out of the large sleeve. My pillar has the small hole. So when I latch the tops, the whole sleeve sliders out until it makes contact with the small hole in the pillar and then the small pin penetrates through (thats what she said!) into the pillar hole for a nice snug fit.
