AC trouble

So i installed a new AC compressor and drier on my 87 IROC, but the air only comes out of the vents on top of the dash by the windsheild... I live in a very hot climate this time of year and i want to be able to count on my AC, anyone know how to fix this so the air flows through ALL the vents?

Re: AC trouble

You have a vacuum leak. The 'doors' that redirect the air flow are controlled by vacuum - and the 'no vacuum' default setting is defrost vents.

Re: AC trouble

I had the same issue. Easier way to check them is to pull the heater/ac controls out from the console and check each line there. If you turn the car on and then the air you can try and listen for an air leak. If you dont hear anything there, your going to have to trace the lines out to each source which will be a major PITA.

Re: AC trouble

Sometimes there may be a leak, but it will just stop by itself. Sometimes. I know mine does that every morning. I start it, ad set it to the defrost, and it hisses like crazy. 5 minutes later, it just stops and works fine. Weird.

Where is the console exactly?

Re: AC trouble

Right above the radio, the controls there. Vaccum lines go into the back of it to tell the air where to go. Unscrew the bezel and there should be a few bolts holding the controls in (10mm i think). Take those out and the control should slide forward some.
