new grant wheel installed in my 91 formula. pics

just thought i would share some pics of my grant install. There are 2 reasons i changed the wheel. First reson is my horn buttons where broke off and did not work. I almost got side swiped by a lady in a new bmw and said thats it im getting my horn fixed. second reson is i think the stock wheel is ugly as hell. I went with the grant gt formula wheel. im very happy with the wheel so far. here are pics.

i just cut the airbag wire and tucked it under the steering colum. i cut it very short so you can't even notice it. one you remove the snap lockring from the steering shaft the air bag coil with the warning label will just pull right out.

around 100 bucks. I bought it from summitracing part no grt-789. The only think i notice with this aftermarket wheel its about 1 or so inches smaller then the stock wheel and sits closer to your body then the stock wheel. I like it. feels really sporty.

Are you talking about the cup holder on the passenger door? if so I think most 90-92 birds had them. I had 4 third gen birds and this is the first one of them to have that. or are you talking about the map pouch right infront of the passenger chair?

that's it!!! the map pouch. no cup holders, no glove box no access panel for the fuel pump, remove the hub to replace rotors on the front

4 silly things from GM engineers on 3rd gens.

yes, is that just a firebird thing and how does it mount if one can be bought?

Re: new grant wheel installed in my 91 formula. pics

i like the wheel, its not the common 4 spoke thing it seems like everyone and their mothers throw in a 3rd gen because its the cheapest one they can find.

i like mine, ive seen maybe 1 or 2 other 3rd gens with it.

travis that a nice wheel. yes i 100% agree with you. i wanted a wheel that looks old school muscle and flows well with a third gen. I don't like the challenger grant wheels just a personal opinion. Plus Alot of third gen owners have the grant challenger wheel. Im very happy with how things turned out.

WOW please do that! Cant wait to see how it looks

Can you drop me a P.N when you have posted some pictures? That would be awsome!

Ok thanks will do that.Do i need some kind of adapter? Or do i just put in the steering wheel after i have removed the coil like in this picture? Do i also need to remove the wavy washer behind the air bag coil or can i leave it inside?

And it seems i need to grind some plastic. Thats necessary right? Because when i turn the wheel the black plastic is scratching the colum plastic.

Better to grind the gray colum plastic or from the black steering wheel plastic?

Thanks alot for youre help! Awsome site whit tons of usefull informations!

Re: new grant wheel installed in my 91 formula. pics

you need a grant adaptor kit. you must order one from an early third gen. 82-89. because they don't make them for air bag columns. and grind that adaptor down. or the column. i have enjoyed the grant wheel so far and think it was on of the best interior mod i ever done.

So it wont work whitout the grant adaptor kit? I live in Germany and the adaptor costs 40 bucks.

I realy love the new old steering! Soooooooo much better than the ugly airbag wheel!

Youre grant wheel looks awsome! If i would have a Camaro i would put in the exact same wheel! But for the Firebird they have this awwwsome looking three spooke wheel

i wanted a wheel that looks old school muscle and flows well with a third gen.
Excatly my thoughts!!!!

Isnt it simply beautifull?

I agree with you. The Firebird 3 spoke wheels look incredible, and match the car well. Not so much when they went to the 4 spoke.

On topic, that grant one looks miles better than the air bag wheel. It goes nicely with the car.

But what's up with the stereo?
