the drain in the cowl area, under the wipers, can rot out and leak, and the firewall below the A/C equipment can rot too. If its not coolant, that could be it.
come to think of it, i had a bad door seal on the PS side and that was leaking into the car too. Something to check

I had water on the drivers side floor years ago that was caused by a loose grommet on the firewall. When it would rain the water would run down the firewall, attach itself to a cable and pour through the opening. A little bit of putty around the hole put an end to it.

Re: Water Leaking into Car...
had the same thing happen to me about 2 weeks ago when it rained for about 4 days straight...i had a puddle in the passengers side...mine was a simple fix...the weatherstrip (the triangular one at the front of the window) was slightly lifted up, i was able to actually see some light through the hole. All i did was push it back down and problem fixed.

Check this area (painted red) above heater core hoses, i've found yesterday water inside my car too!
if you have the same problem, just remove plastic grill under washers, clean as much as you can and put new seal there.
In my car there were two water traces, leaking straight to holes in firewall where the heater core connects to hoses.

I poured some water into the area covered by the Plastic Grill by the Window Wipers. Poured two cups before I realized the garage was not a good place for this. I noticed the some chunks of Glue? or something on the floor boards has started to come loose? big chunks

Re: Water Leaking into Car...
I have found many water leaks in cars by removing trim panels so that the underside of the dashboard can be visualized. You may want to remove the kick panel. Park the car under a lawn sprinkler, and get inside, and have someone turn on the sprinkler. You may have to put your head under the dash with a flashlight, but usually you can spot the leak. It may be something very simple. Good Luck!

Re: Water Leaking into Car...
My car appeared to be rust free. when it would rain the pas. floor board would have standing water. I 1st I thought that the water was getting in where the engine harness passes through kick panel. but this is what I found to be the culprit. this is caused by the cowl drain getting leaves in it, you can not see the drain unless you remove the inner fender.
