Problems with oil pressure guage.

My oil pressure gauge runs at 60 (maxed) all the time. When the ignition is off, or the battery disconnected it only returns to 30. I think the gauge must be bad. Anyone run into this and is there a cure or should I be looking for a replacement? Thanks in advance.

I would say replace it, that's the safest thing to do in my opinion.

Re: Problems with oil pressure guage.

does it go down when at idle and the engine is hot? If not, then it could be the sensor (located near the oil filter) or the gauge itself.

When i replaced my tach it came with a new gauge and I also replaced the sensor

I was hoping it was a sensor, but the gauge should drop to zero when the battery is disconnected right?

check the connections at the sender unit, the units are only like $20 max online, autozone, advanced auto, napa, etc... when i turned mine on it did kinda the same, it was either at 0, maxed out, when i shut it down it does the same. guy i bought it from told me it needed a new unit. hope this helps, good luck

it should unless the needle gets stuck. tap it with the key off and see if it drops all the way.....have you taken the needle off the gauge at any point? was it doing this since you got the car?
