Dynamat or Hush mat, cheaper?
So I just orderd my Dove grey carpet set from Ecklers camaro for my 89 IROC along with a new set of custom floor mats. I was going to order the floor kit Hush mat set they have but $250.00 just for insulation sounds a little steep to me. Anyone know of an alternative or other place where I can get it cheaper? I don't think the insulation should cost the same as the carpet.... just doesn't make sense! lol...
Thanks

If you have an Andersons nearby, they have Dynomat fairly cheap. They order most of their automotive accessories from a place called Wholesale House in Hicksville Oh that sells stuff really cheap to licensed vendors. They only charge about 20% more than wholesales's price. I did my whole hatch for sound......about $40 dollars.

Now thats more like it! What type of business is Andersons? I'm not sure if we have one in Chattanooga, TN but I'll check. Also I'm going to hit some of these stereo installation places to see what I can find. But because I'm the type of person that does not cut corners I may just break down and buy the Hush mat kit from Ecklers. This IROC is getting nothing short of perfection when it comes to parts so if I go broke, well, at least its not on a woman.. lmao.. hope my girl doesn't read this...
On a second note, to those who have installed their own carpets. I've seen several different types of insulation. Classic industries has the factory stuff really cheap but I don't think it works that great. Opinions? Also I've seen just sound deadener then other types that are heat resistent as well. The Hush mat from Ecklers seems to be an all around good insulation, thus the reason its so pricey...

I bought this and I've been very happy with it. The only bad part is the installation; it's time consuming and you'll be sore afterward after all the contortioning you'll do if you attempt to cover every square inch like I did. I estimate that it took me at least 18 hours, but again, I used every last bit of that 100 foot roll which will do your entire car. 100 feet, shipped free, is what made me purchase it from this seller.

Re: Dynamat or Hush mat, cheaper?
I've read that hushmat is like an all in one solution.. Prevents rattles and vibrations, it is a thermal barrier, it isolates the interior from exterior noise like wind, exhaust, gears, fuel pump, road noise, etc.. and it is just easy to install, just peel, stick and roll.. Do all brands do the same thing? I've also read that it uses an odorless adhesive, unlike other brands that apparently use asphault lol!

Re: Dynamat or Hush mat, cheaper?
I have used it all, HushMat, DynoMat , FatMat. Lizard Skin The best bang for your buck is the Fat Mat, No major difference in any of them, but the FatMat is def the cheapest. I ordered it straight from FatMat. www.fatmat.com
Re: Dynamat or Hush mat, cheaper?
Some tips
1) Clean the surface for application THOROUGHLY. Sticking this stuff to a dirty surface is worthless.
2) Warm with a heat gun before application. This allows the rubber/butyl to melt and stick better to the metal.
3) Roll over it with a roller. Look for a wooden roller about 1" wide (second skin does sell these, I can rarely find them for sale elsewhere) to help apply the deadener evenly. Just remember its not just weight and thickness but the actual materials to block out sound.

Re: Dynamat or Hush mat, cheaper?
look up FATMAT on ebay, i just used it when doing my carpet and it was a piece of cake and i did the whole car for 100 bucks and that includes rollers and shipping. I then picked up a heat gun from harbor freight for 13 bucks and used that on it, worked great.

That looks great in there! I may do my whole car as well, I'm wanting to install a good stereo system once the interior is complete so why not.

You know, new carpet with mass backing would achieve the same results, don't you think that's a little bit of overkill.Well that's my thoughts anyway.

I got mine from 1A, and it comes with the insulation already attached.
Re: Dynamat or Hush mat, cheaper?
Found these guys for cut price Dynamat. I have used Hush and Fat Mat and don't think they can touch the Dynamat...

Re: Dynamat or Hush mat, cheaper?
I did my entire Bronco in "Peel N Seal" from Lowes. Virtually the same as Dynamat at way below the price.
Re: Dynamat or Hush mat, cheaper?
Peel N Seal is an asphalt based product designed for a roof. Under sun and heat it omits odors and chemicals that are toxic.
Check out Sound deadener showdown. They will show you the REAL proof not just some 'oh my audio guy swears by this product so its the product God would use if he drove a car'.

Im going peel n seal in the Bronco, if i keep it since its offroad only and fatmat, doubled up, in the vert. I want the best for the vert, but the differences between dynamat and fatmat in a CONVERTIBLE have to be negligible at best.

Yeah, I never once smell any odors from my 91 Bronco and it stayed topless all summer, so at the peak temp of 115* it never once smelled. Mine was laid over Rustoleum liner btw.

It spent the summer before last with a top and PeelNSeal... Maybe I just got lucky?
Re: Dynamat or Hush mat, cheaper?
Quite possible man.
I apologize if I was coming across as a know it all here. Car audio is one of my hobby's and a large part of it is sound deadner. It is quite possible your layers of carpet and other things over powered the smell.

Re: Dynamat or Hush mat, cheaper?
I would rather buy a good brand since this is going to be done once and will stay on forever pretty much. Some brands adhere to metal better than others and I know hushmat does not require a heatgun to get it to stick. When I read "best bang for your buck" I'm not sure what that means to be honest because that sounds like just getting some sound deadening but why not go the extra mile to put the best stuff in there and be done with it and make a noticeable difference in the comfort of the car?

Re: Dynamat or Hush mat, cheaper?
I didn't go cheap on the insulation, just wanted the best for my money. I was looking at Hushmat and Dynamat but ended up ordering Bonded logic heat and sound insulation from JC Whitney. I got a 4ft. x 48ft. roll for $179.99. Granted I have to use a spray adhesive to install it, the reviews said this is good stuff so we'll see. I'll take pics and give my thoughts once it gets here. And yes, once this is done I don't plan on tearing the new carpet out anytime soon. lol
