Crease in new Carpet....

Got my new carpet for my Iroc today, installation was going well untill I took a closer look at a crease running down the center between the rear seats.

this crease seems to be cast/formed into the mass backing.

Never ordered a carpet with mass backing before... Any chance that this will work itself out over time? I already sent an email to the supplier describing the problem as well....

You have to let it sit out, stretched, in a warm room before you install it.Hopfully you didn't trim it yet.

You can also smooth it out using a cloth iron in the steam mode. Be fare full about leaving it one spot too long

Re: Crease in new Carpet....

cut the holes for the center console.... sigh...

I can get my garage pretty warm, and I have a good heat gun as well(Backside only.. I'm sure it would melt the nylon). not sure how I would stretch it though..

Not too keen on the iron idea...

I don't mean stretch literally,I mean lay out flat with a pull on each side.If you can pull it out I would do that.

Re: Crease in new Carpet....

This came from the way it was packaged, not because of what type you got. Most installers let the carpet sit outside in the sun for a few hours to soften and take a new shape. The crease you are seeing was probably a fold in the shipping process.

Thats what I thought as well... Unfortunately, Chicago in November isnt exactly "Heat up the carpet" type of weather. I've kept the garage in the mid 70's the past week as much as possible and it hasn't relaxed at all.

Been talking to the company I ordered from and they are working on it. I tried heating it up with a heat gun, but because the crease in under an area withthe thick padding, I dont think I can get it hot enough without destroying that padding.
