Re: Speedo swap

305 tbis use a vss buffer box, the raw vss signal goes into the box then is then output to both the ecm and the speedo. as long as you dont remove the buffer box, the speedo will still get the correct vss signal.

Re: Speedo swap

Interesting, thanks. Guess I'll just have to find this box and trace the wires. Is there a way to just connect the wiring harness from under the dash. Or would all the gauges still work with the swap and plug into the harness

Re: Speedo swap

you dont have to trace or swap anything. just unplug the ecm. the gauge will continue to work as normal. the vss buffer box is a yellow looking thing near the ecm.

Re: Speedo swap

I guess what I'm trying to figureout is I have to use after market harness for the gauge and I'm trying to picture how to plug it in so it'll work

Re: Speedo swap

unless youre switching to an aftermarket gauge, you dont need an aftermarket harness

Re: Speedo swap

if its an aftermarket speedo, itll be programable (most likely) if thats the case it can get its vss signal from the buffer box, or straight from the vss. if you want to keep cruise control, dont touch the vss buffer box.

Re: Speedo swap

i asked classic dash when they first came out. they dont offer them on the site, but you can get them to drill out a blank panel in the 3 3/8th size. or just get panel thats not drilled and drill the holes yourself.

Re: Speedo swap

i made my own harness that taps into the stock cluster wires. the gauges just have regular spade terminals and theyre labeled. this will help.

Re: Speedo swap

did you keep the stock harness with your engine swap and just tap into the connectors at the dash?

Re: Speedo swap

yea you can get wire taps from many places. it just snaps over the wire and lets you plug in a spade connector.

Re: Speedo swap

everything runs off of senders that has wires that go into the dash cluster.

Re: Speedo swap

theres actually 4 different ground wires in the cluster. you can split the gauges among them and be fine. i have all my gauges running off those grounds.
