Re: My new steering wheel

Decided to trade in the box for something a little more practical I still need a hub adapter before I can install it. Apparently I can't use a Grant adapter because they use a 5 bolt pattern. I'm leaning towards an NRG short hub and quick release. Anyways, here's a few pics for your viewing pleasure.

Re: My new steering wheel

Looks like a Momo "Millenium", they have it listed at $316 on their website right now for those who were curious.

Plus an $80 proprietary hub according to Momo.

Re: My new steering wheel

IMO if the interior is 100% stock then you should stay with the stock wheel. IF you have modified the interior (new gauges, flashy stereo, seats, shifter etc) then a new sporty wheel seems to work well. Personally, I love Momo wheels and it looks like you picked out a really nice (top of the line) wheel!

Re: My new steering wheel

Interior is mostly stock for now. However I do have an alpine head unit. Future plans include a set of Recaro LS Trophies, 4th gen leather rear seats, LED gauges, and a couple necessary gauges. I've also been thing about getting a shift **** to match the steering wheel. I think this wheel matches my car perfectly with it being black with 20% tint and chrome Y2K's.

Re: My new steering wheel

Awesome. I have always liked that wheel but had only ever seen it with silver spokes. Looks much better with the black anodize. Now all you need to do is get those weird chrome rings anodized black as well. Are they aluminum?

That wheel looks great! I really like it. Totally something I would have used when I bought my new wheel.

Re: My new steering wheel

Well I finally broke down and just got a MOMO hub adapter. I couldn't find one that I was really satisfied with but in all honesty, the MOMO adapter doesnt look as bad as I thought it would. I really wanted an NRG quick release, but those are about $300 vs. the $75 for the MOMO adapter. Anyway, here's some pics.

First things first. The MOMO hub adapters are poorly made and don't actually fit all that well. There is interference between the back of the adapter and the plastic steering column shroud. You either have to trim about .25" off the column plastic, adapter, or live with it rubbing. I ended up filing down two little ribs inside the plastic and sanding down the plastic as well to minimize the rubbing. It still makes contact but after two days it has decreased. The hub is basically self clearancing the spot that rubs. While it's annoying, I suspect it will wear into it enough within a couple weeks.

Other than that, I love this wheel, It feels great. My hands natural resting points are very comfortable and it's not as slippery as the stock wheel. This one also has a smaller diameter, giving you bettering steering feel, more leg room and an overall pleasant driving experience.

I did not hook the horn back up though. I didn't spend much time on the install (did it during my lunch break), but it came with a little metal ring and several wires. It seems that I'd have to to cut the stock wiring off my old steering wheel and use that as well. The supplied metal ring didn't seem to want to fit anywhere.

Re: My new steering wheel

Nice! I'm glad you brought this thread back to life. I just starting thinking about maybe getting a new steering wheel. Something to give my car more of a Star-Fighter cockpit now that my Digital Dash is being made.

Thinking about these:
NGR - Pilota
Momo - Nero
Grant - Club Sport

My car is mostly black/matte black, does anyone have these or seen these? Is the black super shiny like pleather? Don't want suade. I'm not a fan of the company name written across the whole wheel either but I've had pretty good luck removing logos.
