Re: took my wood grain kit off what do you think

Wood grain looks good in some vehicles but the black looks better in your car. The wood was much to light and just seemed out of place. I have a wood grain kit in my truck but would not even think about putting it in my Bird.

Looks better without it, but your woodgrain was garbage period. Looks really generic! I had a dark cherry wood grain on my hardtop that looked alot better. No disrespect dude, just saying.

a MILLION times better. Makes me feel better about mine, as I have the identical GRANT steering wheel also Well, mines got another slotted hole in it, but it matches well with the rest of the interior.

No more hoosier stuff, ok? Haha.

Yes. It just is totally out of place in a car that revels in its 80's plasticness the way third gens do.
Even if there was something that made it seem right, dash overlays will always look like a Lumber liquidators truck dumped its load through your tops. It's so obviously added on.

I've never been a fan of wood trim in any cars, never understood how that fad caught on in luxury cars.

Looks great now! wow nice black dash If I had a higher milage GTA I would be tempted to paint the gauge surrounds black like you did. very muscular looking. The white gauges pop! looking great!

Re: took my wood grain kit off what do you think

It all depends on the wood grain color. I have seen the darker color "wood" and it didn't look so bad. It all depends on one's own taste. I have it on my car but not by choice. The only wood left on my car is on both the right and left A/C vents and the dash above the climate controls. I installed a new center console and its related parts so out went that wood.

Re: took my wood grain kit off what do you think

The light yellowy color of that wood grain is out of place to me. The problem with the real wood kits is that they will sun bleach out. The fake wood kits just look cheap and definitely not like real wood.

A nice burled walnut strip across a classy luxury car dash looks very tasteful. An aftermarket kit in a thirdgen, well, doesn't. It looks like Home Depot threw up in the car.

Looks a lot better. I had to laugh when you kept saying you're older. What I wouldn't give to be an "older" man of 24 again.

Re: took my wood grain kit off what do you think

I guess a repaint may be in store for me. I thought it was awesome and made it stick out. Sorry to bring up an old thread but it sucks that you guys hate wood grain. Ugh. It will never get bleached out in the sun. Car has 40k miles on it and as far as I know has never been in the rain or snow, always garaged. Been babied.

Dude...... If you like your wood grain then you should keep it, Don't let people on a board sway you. If everyone done everything the same way there'd be alot of boring people/cars floating around.

Besides..... It's YOUR car......

Re: took my wood grain kit off what do you think

I agree 100% with Rob. You are the one that gets in the car and drives it, none of them. If you like it, keep it. I had an 84 SC with saddle interior I actually thought about making my own wood inlays for. I have access to some of the more desirable domestic wood though, persimmon, cherry, walnut, hemlock. The car went away and I never thought about it again. My 86 has black int now and it will not work unless its ebony, which would be a huge expense. Wood grain done tastefully and in the right interior does not look bad. Picture this grain as wood inlays.

I have to disagree with you here. So will many members. Again, it's about doing it tastefully. 18s tucked in nicely on a lowered car look great. 24s with a car jacked up higher than an SUV look ridiculous.

LOL MY car has 16" IROCS, my DD Grand Cherokee has 16" factory's. Just saying the larger wheels look good on some of the cars I've seen members have. It's often needed to squeeze the larger brakes in. The pic I posted was one of the bad examples of 24's. I hope you didn't think I liked that.
