Installed ABS headliner, but doesn't look quite right

Hey,

I just installed one of the fabric covered ABS headliners, but the fitment isn't all that great.

Because these aftermarket ones don't use the little plastic clips that the factory ones do. It sags in the front and it's really ticking me off, because I almost think it sags more than the old one I took out.

Is there anyway to fix this? Why don't these aftermarket ones have the clips there? The slots for them, are already in the car, so it seems dumb to not include them as part of the headliner.

If I push up on the headliner where those clips should be, the gap goes away and it actually look really good.

Any thoughts on how to make this better?

Take the clips off of your old headliner and use windshield urethane to hold them in place on your new head liner..

my old ones were brittle and broke.
I've been searching, and looks like this is a common problem with these headliners, and some were able to fix it with HD velcro. So going to give this a try.

but ticks me off, that I have to now go get some velcro and hope it works.

Yeh, a lot of them are broke and no one knows it until they remove the headliner...

The velcro will hold for now, when the temp heats up so may the glue on the velcro that you stuck to the car. Time will tell.

As far as your t-bar fitment.
When the weather warms up take 2 1x4 boards, wrap them each in a towel.
Take the t-tops off. place the boards on either side of the headliner.
Take a rachet strap and tighten it up. one strap in the front and one strap in the back
NOT TOO TIGHT. Let it sit for the most part of the day.
The fit should be better afterwards.

Is that the best replacement headliner out there? I need to do mine and would really like to know.

Re: Installed ABS headliner, but doesn't look quite right

Unfortunately, ABS liners are the only thing as far as aftermarket replacement goes.
Pillsbty10 and I tried the fiberglass headliner from Marks Custom Kits (does knight rider stuff and etc) and they were pathetic, at best.

Quality, finish, fitment, all substandard. To top the poor quality, returning them for a refund turned into an ordeal as well.

Pillsbry ordered an ABS from A1 (iirc) and it was satisfactory. Not nearly OEM fit but, it was not bad considering the alternative of no headliner at all.

Seeing it personally, I'd say for the standard DD, it's a decent piece. Certainly not OE/resto quality though.
