My (mechanical) speedometer is noisy

I've replaced and greased the cable from the transmission to the dash, but I'm still getting noise. It sounds like it's coming from the speedometer itself, like the gears inside are the source. I've searched but haven't seen anything about how to take apart / clean / grease the speedometer itself. Any pointers and experience would be much welcomed.

If the trip odometer is non-functional (and it probably is), the trip gears may be the issue. Perhaps something below will be helpful:

Re: My (mechanical) speedometer is noisy

Sorry, I should have mentioned that I fixed the trip odometer a while back. My J-clips were broken, so I used monofilament line to hold the shaft in place and it's worked very well for 2+ years.
