LED Cluster done with LED strips

Hi,

Been wanting to add LEDs to my cluster but didn't want to use the plug n play LEDs, because they always have hotspots.

So instead what I did, was installed those LED strips inside the cluster.
This allowed me to place the LEDs where I needed them. I think overall it turned out pretty good.

I would like to get a couple more strips and try and make the needles light up better. I would love it if those were super bright.

Also for some reason my oil gauge is slightly brighter than the rest. It looks worse in the picture, but it is noticeable so I might have to move a strip around to even it out.

Here is a picture of the strips in place, I used an empty 194 socket to plug right into the factory plug.

What I do like the most is, I can actually read the odometer in the dark now. Before, you just couldn't see what the numbers were at.

Here is a better picture, I didn't realize that the first pic made the speedo and tach needles pretty much invisible.

You can see them, I just want all the needles even brighter.

Looks like a nice opition compared to a plug-n-play LED.

Thanks, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. Looking forward to taking it out at night and see how things look.

I have the same 140mph cluster. I may have to try this myself, although I have no experience with LED's.

hmm, I don't really think they look green. I guess there could be a green tinge to them. and that would be because 'superwhite' has a blue hint to it, you can see it where the odometer numbers are.

And since the 91/92 style gauges have yellow writing, the yellow and blue will create a slight green effect.

Nice job! Do they still dim? They look like they could be a little bright.

They do not dim with the stock dimmer, but I'm sure somethig could be done to make that work. I have LEDs in my 4Runner, and they dim with the stock dimmer switch.

Re: LED Cluster done with LED strips

oh, and they are not really that bright where it would hurt your eyes or anything. I'm actually thinking about putting a few more in there to brighten it up just a tad bit more.
