Seatbelt problems on 84 Z28

Seatbelt problems on 84 Z28

Hey guys, the seatbelts in my car have seen there last day, the bottom's recoil just fine but the unit's attacted to the roof dont work porperly, there pulled all the way out, and will not retact back in, ive tried WD40 with no success, im having this problem with the driver and passenger's seat belts, what can i do? is there a quick fix or will i have to purchase new units, thanks

There was a recall for the upper retractors. The plastic cover that retains the clock spring comes off and the spring goes shooting across the roof under the headliner. If that's what's happened, you can try rewinding the springs and securing the cover with a bail made from a piece of coat hanger, or you can replace them.
