Black box under console?

Engine: Turbo 383 with Holley Sniper
Transmission: factory 5 speed now Powerglide
Axle/Gears: Strange 12 bolt w/373 locker
Black box under console?
I removed the console out of my T/A to switch to a 4th gen console and noticed a black box with four wires goin to it. Can anyone tell me what this is and its importance? Thanks

Can't tell from the description given, could be anything from an alien gps to find people they probed to stereo equipment.
my best guess is it's the brain to a security system. Don't go cutting any wires ( unless you don't plan on starting it anytime soon ) if you DO cut any wires take pictures before you cut so you know how to reconnect them. Try to post a good, well lit picture, if I don't know they're quite a few others that would. The Creator of the thread " get the most out of your v6 is hella smart. But without a good, well lit picture, or a better description, it's kinda hard to pinpoint.

The reason I said security system brain ( alarm brain ) Is because I have never seen one of those type boxes in my 92 rs, that has the airbag.personally I hate having an airbag. If it goes off it will most likely break your nose, shatter your glasses and/or destroy a set of contacts.
I thought the airbag sensors were behind the bumper. Maybe the controller. For them, but I would think they'd tuck the up somewhere, like they did to the ecm just to be a pita to get to

Under the console? Like back by the ebrake? Isn't that the rear hatch release relay?

Nope
If it has yellow wires going to/from it, then it is Air Bag related. IIRC, the box under the console about six inches behind the e-brake handle it is the Air Bag arming sensor.

Might be the air bag computer. They always put them in the center of the car to protect them from damage in a crash.

ya know.......if you would post a picture of this mystery box and it's associated wires, the really smart members on here would look at it and tell you EXACTLY what it is...
