Custom overhead console?
I dont know about you guys but the 80's rotary overhead just has no purpose up there on the overhead lol.Im starting to focus on doing some interior modding and updating.Im keeping the classic transam dash, already have a 4thgen center console, plan to get 4thgen seats.Im toying the idea of using a 92+ jimmy/s10 overhead console and retain the digital compass and temp sensor.
Has anyone retrofitted anything in their car.The console look more modern and provide alot of lighting.

Wow, If that turns out, let me know. That would be awesome. My only bug would be the digital readout on the s-10 console, it probably has the green readout, right? If you could make the readout pontiac's red/orange, that would be something.

Im going to grab one of these and see if the shape and length would fit well with a ttop car.If so then I will shape it to the contour of the roof and screw it in.Wiring the lights is no problem. Then worry about making the compass and readout work.

Let us know. I have one similar in my truck and like it. I might consider the same later if it works.

Re: Custom overhead console?
I had one of these in my 95 Caprice wagon. I added the temp sensor from the Blazer out under the hood and connected the compass to the VSS (I think) and it worked great. I stripped the headliner material off of it, filled in the side indentions with plastic and epoxy and recovered it to match the headliner. It looked nice. I even had the Homelink buttons in it.
My gut feeling is that it's too wide for a T-top car. Also, I think the roof of the F Body is too concave for it to fit without more modification.
Here is a link to the Impala install. Might help you decide.

The t-top version of the console is flatish compared to the coupe version as you can see below:

Re: Custom overhead console?
i haven't updated my site in quite a while; however, i did use an s10 overhead console in my '88. the pics are during the fab process. yes, the console is wide but a bit of fiberglass and contouring makes for a decent fit.
