So i "upgraded" the dash lights with LED lights and in the process i broke the speedometer needle. The needle itself is not broken but the little point where it goes inserted broke. Any suggestions?

If the 'pin' that the needle sits on is bent/broken, you'd probably be best advised to replace the speedo head.

So does this mean i need to take a trip to the junkyard, or can i use a speedo head off of a 85 mph speedometer?

You can swap in an 85, a 110, or a 145 speedo head (82-89 mechanical). I'd swap in the head rather than the entire cluster to avoid possible electrical gremlins.

Re: Broken Speedometer Needle

James,
Whats the proper way of removing the needle on these cars? Mine came right off but when i put it back it broke off. I went to the junkyard and found 1 camaro with the 110 speedometer, tried to remove and it too broke off. Now i got one coming from e-bay and i dont want to make the same mistake. Any suggestions?

As you can imagine, after several years in the elements, the plastic is incredibly fragile. I wouldn't attempt it myself, but I've read where members have experienced good results by using a table fork (slide the 'pin' through the tines of the fork and gently pry upward (close your eyes, pray, and hold your breath).
