Interior plastic repair question...

Has anyone tried to repair the interior plastic pieces? Some of the fastener holes for the hatch surround area trim pieces are cracked and I'd like to keep mine as original as possible since I've had it since new. It's a 89 RS 305 TBI with T5 trans, black exterior and Carmine red interior. I parked in a few years back because of a rust hole in the roof skin that I need to repair. I drove it 363,000 miles up till that point.

Re: Interior plastic repair question...

Im havin the same iquestion. Stripped out my interior the weekend and the previous owner over torqued all the console fastners, prob due to the T5 being repaired so often, so when I backed them off the corners came with them. Im planning on reinforcing the bottom and just glue and sand it all back. The side panels up the pillars are all broken too, Goin at it the weekend, Ill post some pics

I had great results with the Plastifix. It will work to repair the tabs on the console pieces. They are made from ABS. It will NOT work on the interior plastics in the rear and cargo areas that are made from Polyproylene. Check the back of the panel to see what it is made from first.

Dude I totally respect wanting to keep it original. I've had my Z-28 for over 21 years and its almost completely original except the paint. But if a plastic piece breaks/cracks, its getting replaced. The plastic pieces don't have feelings, they won't be hurt. And nobody has to know but you.
Theres tons of plastic trim pieces on eBay or in the TGO for sale section.

Try finding them unbroken. That is the problem. You can't go into your local GM dealer and buy a shifter plate for a 1982 Trans Am. And the junk that is for sale is worse then what was in my car. I did the next best thing. I fixed them.

I guess I've been lucky so far finding good parts. But yea, if you can't find a part then learning how to fix what you got is better than nothing.

Re: Interior plastic repair question...

I appreciate the responses and the links. The interior is Carmine red which is difficult to find like everyone said in the other link. I'm the original owner of the car so it has some sentimental value that I find this info very helpful. Has anyone had luck repairing poly plastics?
